Lakewood Township Municipal Utilities Authority

Welcome to the site of the Lakewood Township Municipal Utilities Authority.

NOTICE

On or around June 1, 2013, an interconnection with the Brick MUA will be complete. The Brick MUA utilizes chloramines as a disinfectant in the water treatment process. Please click here for important information regarding chloramines for kidney dialysis patients and fish aquarium owners.

Please be advised that the Lakewood Township Municipal Utilities Authority will be conducting
their comprehensive annual flushing of water mains commencing Wednesday, April 3, 2013 and continuing through the end of May, 2013, weather permitting.

Customers may experience some discoloration of their water. Should this occur, please run your cold water later in the day until it clears. You may also notice a temporary decrease in water pressure during this period. If you are planning to replace your water filter, please wait until after the Lakewood Township Municipal Utilities Authority has finished their annual flushing.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

Please call (732) 363-4422 ext 6 for specific updates and daily locations.

Dear Customers,

We are extremely pleased to announce that we are now producing water from our new treatment facility located at 390 New Hampshire Avenue. This facility features state of the art treatment processes and will enable us to continue serving our customers with the highest quality water for many years to come. This facility will ultimately be the central treatment location for (8) wells which will all have the capability of being monitored and controlled remotely through a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.

We are also currently replacing our metering infrastructure with an Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system. The new meters will be read by radio signal. Amongst the many benefits of this new system are that our meters will be able to be read at any time thereby alleviating the possibility of late bills or minimum bills sent to customers due to inclement weather or inaccessibility issues. Another great benefit is that upon request we will be able to tell our customers exactly how much water they are using at any given hour. This has already proven to be an extremely useful tool when trying to determine the cause of higher than normal usage. We began replacing the meters in April and we expect the project to be completed before the end of the year (2012).

These projects have been fully funded by the NJ Environmental Infrastructure Trust which provides long term loans at extremely favorable interest rates to Municipalities and Authorities throughout the State. The improvements we have undertaken are essential in order to continue to provide safe drinking water to our customers in a most efficient and effective manner.

Finally, we are proud that, throughout all the improvements which we have undertaken the last several years, our rates continue to be half of what most Lakewood residents pay to NJ American Water Company, and in fact amongst the lowest rates in the entire Ocean & Monmouth Counties.

Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable summer,

Justin Flancbaum
